Sacramento State’s Asian American Studies program will present a tribute to Asian American World War II and Korean War veterans.
Sacramento State’s Asian American Studies program will present a tribute to Asian American World War II and Korean War veterans 4-5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, in the Alumni Center.

The event will include a panel discussion featuring:

Gary Shiota, a Japanese American who served in U.S. Army during World War II. Shiota was raised in Lodi but during World War II, he and his family were sent to an internment camp in Rohwer, Ark.

Kiyo Sato, a Japanese American who volunteered and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Sato grew up in Sacramento and during World War II, Sato and her family were sent to an internment camp in Poston, Arizona. She is the author of the book, Dandelion Through the Crack.

Ping Leong a Chinese American who served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. At 87 years-old, he is one of the oldest Chinese American veterans living in Sacramento.

Pastor Engkabo Jr., a Filipino American who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
