Sacramento State Police Chief Dan Davis
Sacramento State Police Chief Dan Davis
Dan Davis, a lieutenant with Sacramento State’s Police Department, has been appointed the new chief of the campus force. He succeeds Ken Barnett, who is retiring. The appointment was announced by Stephen Garcia, Sacramento State’s vice president for Administration, and was effective Sept. 1. Davis will oversee a staff of 21 sworn officers, five dispatchers, 30 community service officers, and eight office staff members and student assistants.

“I believe the police department plays a critical role in the campus community,” says Garcia. “Dan has the right combination of administrative and law enforcement skills to be successful in the role as chief of police.”

Davis has been with the campus force since 2001. Prior to that he was with the San Francisco State Police Department for 16 years, rising to the rank of captain before he left. Davis has also served with the Fremont and BART police forces.

His first order of business is to continue to build on the foundation that Barnett and he have put in place. “I want to give the force even more visibility and continue to provide our excellent customer service,” Davis says.

Davis enjoys working in a campus environment and is thrilled to have the chance to lead the department. “I’m really excited and looking forward to the future.”
